As part of our continuing process of being able to offer our customers coffee from sustainable production we have added a further coffee to complement our Honduras El Jaguar.

The coffee is an El Salvador SHG (Strictly High Grown) EP, it is a 100% Bourbon, as 70% of plant stock in El Salvador are. This heirloom varietal is one of the reasons why coffee from this country is right up amongst some of the best in the world. They have the perfect climate and conditions for this low yielding, high maintenance strain.

The farm is based in the Apaneca-Ilamtepec mountain range near to the town of Turin in the Auchapan dept. During the non-picking season 16 people work on the farm maintaining and tending to the plants. During the picking period this goes up to 50 people. The altitude of the farm is 1350m.

The coffee is fully washed and sun dried on patios.

In the cup expect lots of sweetness like all great El Salvador Bourbons, but then you get a blast of oranges. A very balanced coffee with a smooth and almost creamy body to it. Then on the aftertaste; a waft of pomegranate.

Mini Tea Bricks

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

Pressing tea into brick form is a longstanding tradition in China. This was a clever solution for saving space during transportation, helping the tea survive even long caravan trips and preserving its flavour. By pressing the tea leaves into bricks, their valuable aromas were sealed inside and protected from environmental influences.

Even though we no longer have to transport our green teas with blossoms and petals by camel, we still offer our mini- bricks so that you too, can indulge in this traditional tea pleasure.

Our Mini Tea Brick Amy Gold is a fine pressed green tea with water lily blossoms and comes with 5 tea bricks in a colourful mini gift box.

To make; It’s best to pour about 600 ml of hot water (80 – 90° C) over one tea brick and let it steep for 4 minutes.

James Sadler

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

With less than 70 days to go to the London Olympics, Peacock Tea & Coffee has introduced a new range of Bone China Crockery to celebrate the event.

Called the London Collection, it is a James Sadler product produced by Churchill China in the UK.

James Sadler was founded in 1882 in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the British pottery industry. The first teapots were made using red clay with a dark brown glazed surface. The Rockingham Brown (or Brown Betty as it is affectionately known) is still available today although most of the production is now made from the more elegant white clay. The teapot came to Europe following the import of tea from China. Some of the earliest teapots were made from metal, usually silver, as tea was at that time an expensive luxury. It was not until the late 1680’s that the Elers Brothers from Amsterdam, who had been silversmith’s, settled near Burslem and applied their art to clay. In the early 18th Century Queen Anne was taking tea made in earthenware teapots and perhaps discussing battle plans with her great General Marlborough.

For the next century the art of the potter continued to improve and North Staffordshire became the centre for Britain’s pottery industry. By the middle of the 19th century, Burslem was established as the teapot centre of the pottery towns.

James Sadler – purveyor of fine teapots since 1882.

To view and buy these collector items follow the following link;

Also from the James Sadler collection, and for all those Royalist in South Africa, we have available two products celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth 11.

The Mug and Teapot are decorative in real Gold, should you ever use them do not place in a Microwave, and are truly a collectors item that will value over time.
